The Spore Works :: Mushroom Grow Kits and Plug Spawn :: Indoor Mushroom Grow Kits and Spawn Starter Kits :: Sclerotia Tuber Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit (Pleurotus tuberregium)

Sclerotia Tuber Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit (Pleurotus tuberregium) #16240
Sclerotia Tuber Oyster Mushroom Grow Kit (Pleurotus tuberregium)  The King Tuber Oyster is noted for its sclerotia forming abilities. The sclerotia, or tuber-like growths, can be harvested and planted separately to produce small spike-like protrusions, that will eventually mature into normal fruit bodies. Our bag formulation allows these spikes to be produced directly from the bag, no need to harvest and replant them in other material!

Each Sclerotia Oyster Mushroom Kit includes a number of pre-sterilized substrate Bags specially designed for sclerotia producing mushrooms. Also included is enough culture material to get each bag started. A filter patch is attached to the Bag to allow for gas exchange during colonization and fruiting. The Bags measure 4" wide, 3" deep, and 18" tall and contains approximately one pound of sterilize substrate.

In an effort to reduce the amount of paper waste created at our company, we will not include printed instructions for this kit. Directions for use are conveniently displayed for your reference below.

Directions for use:

Upon arrival, inspect your Bag(s) for punctures or tears, if any are noticeable, contact us to arrange for a replacement to be shipped. Unfold the Bag, allowing the extra material to stand straight up.

Locate the small foam disk sealed and attached in a plastic housing near the base of the Bag. This disc is the self-healing injector site. Note: The disc will be covered by a small plastic shield. Do not attempt to remove the plastic covering the disc, you will inject through it. Sterilize a small section of the outside of the Bag (on the plastic shield) directly over the foam disc with an alcohol soaked wipe. With the same alcohol soaked wipe, sterilize the needle on your culture syringe.

Inoculate the substrate with culture syringe(included) solution by inserting the needle through the plastic shield and foam disc at the previously sterilized spot. Squirt 2-3cc of culture solution directly into the substrate material .

DO NOT insert the needle through the white filter patch found near the top of the Bag.

Place the kit's Bag(s) in a dark location and incubate at 80-95F. It is recommend to store the Bag fully extended as developing Mycelia will give off gases that will slowly expand the interior of the Bag.

Note: During drier summer months it is advisable to store the Bag in a humid location. Excessively dry environments may draw moisture from the Bags.

Because colonization will begin in the interior of the substrate material it may take between 14-20 days for you to notice the spreading of colonizing mycelium towards the outside of the Bag. Speed of colonization is directly affected by incubation temperatures.

Sclerotia forms best in dark environments. Sclerotia should only be harvested from the Bag when it appears as though they are no longer expanding in size. Sclerotia should not be harvested from the Bag before full colonization takes place (even if sclerotia begin forming early). Sclerotia can often be harvested from the bag, and more will often grow if the bag is resealed. Most sclerotia producing species may take up to 4-5 months to produce their peak amount of sclerotia in the Bag.

Sclerotia from the King Tuber can be harvested and replanted in other mediums. The sclerotia will sprout spike-like growths (as seen below) which will eventually mature to form regular fruit bodies. Slicing the bag when these spikes are noticed is recommended. Place the sliced bag into a larger humidity chamber or tent to allow the spike-like growths to mature into fruitb odies.

Please see addition Sclerotia Oyster cultivation tips found on the Pl. tuberregium species description page.

Tested and proven, this all you need to begin your journey in the art and science of mushroom cultivation.
