Everything
you need to start exploring the wonders of medicinal
mushroom cultivation in a virtually foolproof
kit! These kits include a Reishi, Ling Chi Mushroom
culture syringe (Ganoderma
lucidum) and come with a number of our
pre-sterilized wood-loving Bag environments specially
formulated for fruiting the Reishi Mushroom.
Note:
Small kit includes one Bag and 3cc culture syringe,
medium kit includes four Bags and a 10cc culture
syringe, and the large kit includes ten bags and
a 10cc culture syringe.
Reishi
has been used by the Chinese and Japanese for
hundreds of years for increasing longevity and
various health stimulating effects. It is also
widely reported to induce a non-narcotic feeling
of well-being and is traditionally consumed fresh
or dried in teas and soups. The dried "conks"
have an attractive varnish-like appearance and
can be used in dried flower and seedpod arrangements.
Each
Reishi Mushroom Kit includes a number of pre-sterilized
substrate Bags specially designed for wood loving
mushrooms. Also included is enough culture material
to get each bag started and a plastic humidity
tent for fruiting. A filter patch is attached
to each Bag to allow for gas exchange during colonization
and fruiting. The Bags measure 4" wide, 3"
deep, and 18" tall and contains approximately
one pound of sterilize substrate.
In
an effort to reduce the amount of paper waste
created at our company, we will not include printed
instructions for this kit. Directions for use
are conveniently displayed for your reference
below.
Directions
for use:
Upon
arrival, inspect your Bag for punctures or tears,
if any are noticeable, contact
us to arrange for a replacement to be shipped.
Unfold the Bag, allowing the extra material to
stand straight up.
Locate the small foam disk sealed and attached
in a plastic housing near the base of the Bag.
This disc is the self-healing injector site. Note:
The disc will be covered by a small plastic shield.
Do not attempt to remove the plastic covering
the disc, you will inject through it. Sterilize
a small section of the plastic shield directly
over the foam disc with an alcohol soaked wipe.
With the same alcohol soaked wipe, sterilize the
needle of your culture syringe.
Inoculate
the substrate with culture
syringe(included) solution by inserting the
needle through the plastic shield and foam disc
at the previously sterilized spot. Squirt 1-3cc
of culture solution directly into the substrate
material.
DO
NOT insert the needle through the white filter
patch found near the top of the Bag.
Place
the kit's Bag in a dark location and incubate
at 70-80F. It is recommend to store the Bag fully
extended as developing Mycelia will give off gases
that will slowly expand the interior of the Bag.
Note:
During drier summer months it is advisable to
store the Bag in a humid location. Excessively
dry environments may draw moisture from the Bags.
Once
the bag is 100% colonized, usually within 2-3
weeks with white healthy mushroom mycelium, puncture
the side of the bag at substrate level in several
locations with a clean instrument. These holes
allow the Reishi mushroom to get started, see
Figure 2.
Place
the punctured bag on a small plate in the center
of the supplied humidity tent. Rolling up the
sides of the humidity tent will help create a
stable base to keep the bag material from flopping
over, see Figure 3. A wire coat hanger can also
be creatively utilized to form a makeshift frame
for the humidity tent. Place the covered kit in
a location where temps are within 65-70F. Begin
light exposure with filtered sunlight or indoor
lighting for approximately 12 hours daily.
Placing
the Reishi kit Bag into a closed system humidity
chamber is also possible. However, if such a system
does not have a high rate of fresh air exchange
then you can only expect the antler-like form
of Reishi to grow, restricting your abillity to
collect spores from the specimen.
Within
a few weeks of initiating the fruiting cycle you
will begin to notice the formation of Reishi pins
from the punctured areas of the Bag, see Figure
2. Eventually the Reishi will begin to branch
out and resemble the antler like structure found
in Figure 1.
Tested
and proven, this all you need to begin your journey
in the art and science of mushroom cultivation.
